Today on the tray: Oooh! Oooh! Cheese pizza

Domino's Wisconsin 6 Cheese Pizza

September 5 is National Cheese Pizza Day.

Pizza.com says the average pizzeria uses roughly 55 pizza boxes per day. Also, “pizzerias are expected to purchase more than $4 billion worth of cheese annually by the year 2010.” (Hey, Pizza.com, maybe it’s time to update your site.)

According to UrbanDictionary.com, “cheese pizza” is slang for child pornography. WTF? That’s one I never heard before. If any fast food is going to be synonymous with child porn, shouldn’t it be subs? After all, that’s the food sold by a national chain with a child pornographer as its spokesperson.

Joe E. RossHey, did you ever make your own cheese pizza using Chef Boy-ar-dee’s cheese pizza mix? According to Joe E. Ross—that’s Gunther Toody from Car 54, Where Are You?—“It is simple to make a Chef Boy-ar-dee pizza. Oooh! Oooh!” Yes, in this 1960s commercial, Ross uses his catchphrase, “Oooh! Oooh!” no fewer than three times to make his point. See it below, starting at the 00:30 mark (after the Primatene Mist commercial).

Oooh! Oooh! Have a great National Cheese Pizza Day!

  1. ?? I had no idea you could make your own Boyardee pizza. I guess that was way before there were pizza joints on every corner. We have three within a mile. And still we ate frozen pizza last night! I guess it makes sense that “cheese pizza” would be the term, since only kids eat that, with their unrefined palates. But I also see how the sub would make sense, too, in light of the latest discoveries.
