August 8 is National Zucchini Day.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the longest zucchini on record measured 7 feet-10.3 inches on October 17, 2005. It was grown by Gurdial Singh Kanwal in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
If the thought of a 7-foot zucchini overwhelms you, you might find canned zucchini more manageable. Del Monte makes a canned zucchini that must be pretty good — after all, it’s the favorite brand of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf (see below). By the way, that’s J. Carroll Naish from Life with Luigi narrating the story of the little bambina.
