Today in TV history: Cigarette ads banned

TV’s ban on cigarette advertising went into effect on this date, January 2, 1971.

The video below shows deleted scenes from Brokeback Mountain. Oh wait! It’s a Marlboro cigarette commercial! There’s an especially tender moment between two cowboys at 0:40 where one lights another’s cigarette.
