August 3 is National Watermelon Day.

CNN says, “There are around 300 different kinds of watermelon in the U.S. and Mexico…Watermelons are usually quite large, and many county fairs award prizes for the biggest ones. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the heaviest watermelon weighed 262 pounds.”

And you know the old adage: When life hands you watermelons, make watermelon Pop-Tarts.

No, I never heard that either. But that’s the message behind this animated 1997 commercial for Wild Watermelon Pop-Tarts. The commercial fails to market what I would consider to be the product’s greatest strength, which is that it contains no seeds. In the unlikely event that you want a Wild Watermelon Pop-Tart, you’re out of luck — they don’t make them anymore. (Bad pun alert) What a pit-y.
