Cher turns 67 today, May 20, 2013.
Below, watch her perform her “Vamp” routine on The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. This was a recurring segment on the show. Cher would perch seductively atop the piano while Sonny played, and she would sing about various notorious women in history, always ending with “She was a camp, scamp and a bit of a tramp, she was a V-A-M-P—vamp!” This would be followed by a skit about the woman she’d been singing about. In this episode, Cher portrays Nefertiti, Lili Marlene, and Sadie Thompson. Guest Harvey Korman appears in the skits.

The show always ended up with the couple coming out on stage with daughter Chastity, who looked uncomfortable all dolled up in little girl clothing. Of course, she would one day become a man named Chaz. Sonny and Cher would close the show by singing “I Got You Babe.”
The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, which began in 1971, was a huge hit, but it was canceled in 1974 when Sonny and Cher divorced. It was followed by Sonny’s solo effort, The Sonny Comedy Revue (1974), which wasn’t very good; Cher’s solo effort, Cher (1975-76), which was pretty good; and a revived Sonny & Cher Show post-divorce (1976-77), which wasn’t as good as the original.
