Actor William Holden was born on April 17, 1918. He was a major movie star of his era (especially the 1950s), starring in films such as Sunset Boulevard and The Bridge on the River Kwai.
But to me, he will always be the movie star who was stalked by Lucy at the Brown Derby and wound up with food all over himself. It was in the episode of I Love Lucy titled “Hollywood at Last!,” which originally aired on February 7, 1955.
Remember that scene? It was The Ricardos and the Mertzes have just arrived in Hollywood, and Lucy, Ethel, and Fred and are hungry to see some movie stars. Lucy figures correctly that she’ll find some at the Brown Derby restaurant. Sure enough, William Holden is in the next booth. Annoyed by Lucy’s staring, Holden decides to turn the tables on her—but as an unnerved Lucy hastily exits, she collides with a server who spills food all over Holden. Watch it unfold here.
