The news broke today that Barbara Walters is planning to retire in 2014. Walters began her career in 1961 at NBC’s Today Show, where she eventually became a co-host. In 1997 she created and began co-hosting The View.

Gilda Radner famously lampooned Walters in the early years of Saturday Night Live, exaggerating the broadcast journalist’s speech impediment.  In 2012 Walters told the Daily News, “Gilda was so wonderful—the sketch immortalized me—but at the time I wasn’t so thrilled.”
