There was Brothers, a mostly forgotten sitcom that ran from 1984 to 1989 on Showtime. The show revolved around a gay man and his two straight brothers. It was one of the first shows to feature a major character who was gay.
It seems appropriate to share this today, as the Supreme Court hears arguments about marriage equality.
In this first episode of the series, Cliff backs out of his wedding (to a woman) and tells his brothers he’s gay. His coming out happens at around the 4:50 mark.
