December 23 is Roots Day.
The holiday site Punchbowl.com says, ”It is our genealogy that makes us who we are today, so take the time to sit down with your older relatives and talk to them about the past.”
Roots, the 1977 miniseries based on the book by Alex Haley, got a lot of people interested in finding their own roots. The saga of an African American family, spanning multiple generations and two continents, received unprecedented Nielsen ratings and won nine Emmy awards, a Golden Globe award, and a Peabody award.
