Opening and closing credits, Green Acres
Hungarian-born actress Eva Gabor, best known for her role as Lisa Douglas on Green Acres, was born on this date (Feb. 11) in 1919. Her sisters Zsa Zsa and Magda were also actresses and socialites. Eva died in 1995.
Green Acres was broadcast from 1965 to 1971. Created by Paul Henning, the sitcom followed on the heels of his other rural-based hits, The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction, and was set in the fictional town of Hooterville.
Trailer, Queen of Outer Space, starring Zsa Zsa Gabor (1958)
Zsa Zsa Gabor — actress, socialite, and television personality — turns 96 today, Feb. 6, 2013. (I thought she was dead, but I was thinking of her Green Acres sister, Eva.) The former Miss Hungary was married nine times. I remember her mostly for her many appearances on The Merv Griffin Show, and for her 1989 conviction for slapping a Beverly Hills cop who had stopped her for a routine traffic violation.
In this clip, Gabor stars in Queen of Outer Space, a 1958 movie that takes place in the distant future — 1985! A “daring band of explorers” lands on an all-female planet where they are “captured by long-limbed beauties.” The astronauts experience “the indescribable delights of the female planet.”
